Doug Hall of FRIENDS OF NEPAL shared us about the number of refugees resettled there:
As many of us work to help the arriving Bhutanese, it is helpful to put their numbers in the broader context of all refugees arriving in the US. For the 8 months from October through May 7,911 Bhutanese refugees arrived in the US. During the same period 11,637 Iraqis arrived, 10,150 Burmese, 2,589 Somalis. Altogether 43,957 refugees arrived in the US; the Bhutanese are less than 20% of the total. So when we interact with the local refugee resettlement agencies we always need to realize that they are dealing with many other languages and cultures at the same time. Get the latest data here:
